How to Enter the Classroom
Greetings are a very important social skill. When you enter my classroom, I will make every effort to be at the door to greet you. This is my opportunity to have personal contact with you each day and our opportunity to start each class with a smile. You are not allowed to enter without a friendly greeting. NO GRUMPS!!!! I want you to like me, so I can like you back.
Your job, after entering and greeting me, is to take your two behavior tickets from the designated class container (on Monday’s get your bathroom pass, too, pickup your writing notebook, sit in your assigned seat, look at the agenda on the SmartBoard, and complete the Bellringer. Depending on the Bellringer, you will be given approximately 5 minutes to complete these tasks. When you finish the Bellringer, return your writing notebook to the correct container. Wait quietly for the timer if you finish early.
Bathroom Passes
Each student receives one (1) bathroom pass per week. If you need to use the bathroom, you must give your pass to me. It is your responsibility to keep track of your pass. On Monday, I will return all passes collected the previous week.
Emergencies do happen (but not every day or even weekly). If you cannot wait or feel sick, please ask to go even if you have previously used your pass. Each request is considered on a case to case basis. No one needs to use the restroom every day during language arts class.
Behavior Tickets
Each student has two (2) behavior tickets each day. Pick up your behavior tickets from the appropriate container and place both tickets on your desk where they are visible. If your behavior is not acceptable during class, I will take one (1) ticket. This is your warning. If you choose not to make your behavior acceptable, I will take the second (2) ticket. When a student loses both tickets in one day, he/she has an automatic lunch detention. Students begin each day with two (2) tickets. At the end of the class period, it is your responsibility to return your remaining tickets to the appropriate container.
Appropriate Classroom Behavior
1. Do not talk while I am talking or explaining.
2. Do not talk while another student is answering a question or asking a question.
3. Listen to me and to your classmates.
4. Do not raise hands to answer. I will call on anyone at anytime, so be ready. Everyone does everything.
5. Move quietly and efficiently when partnering.
